Home Tour: Little Details at the Thompson House

The Thompson House has so many beautiful details through out every room of their home. It was impossible to pick just one room to focus on. Melanie Thompson teaches DIY workshops and has poured so much attention into creating an inviting atmosphere. The mud room has an area for a hand-lettered market list and she is already looking ahead to make Christmas sea glass ornaments.

The kitchen has a rack of black and white monogramed mugs, one for each family member. The farm table with white ironstone dishes and pieces of pottery is earthy and serene.

One of the best spots in their home is this beautiful black and white stair rail, with a carpeted stair runner and framed botanical prints. The top of the stairs is commonly an overlooked blank area that can make a stunning focal point. Accents of black and white are carried through the house (such as the fabric selected for the throw pillow) to maintain continuity.

The red, white, and blue wall of antique plates is a wonderful inspiration for how to display plates, minus the traditional means of a large hutch or china cabinet. I passed up a box of five dollar floral plates at a yard sale and will never make that mistake again. They would have made a beautiful wall assortment. This overall design of mismatched shapes and sizes is a wonderful focal point!
