In Season: Edible Flowers and Blackberries

There are so many berries in season right now. You can buy cartons of them everywhere. Jams and jellies are delicious year round but this is the only time of year we can get the tastiest blackberries and blueberries in their peak. The difference in taste of a freshly picked berry is worth the wait all year.

Lately I am enjoying the rustic simplicity of raw edge cake. This cake piled high with frosting and blackberries was made by Gabriel Cabrera. I have also seen some of the wooden tree trunk serving platters for sale at different barn sale vendors. You can use a variety of berries and edible flowers to decorate a cake.  This combination below is absolutely perfect.
